Jennifer Lawrence Inspired Hair Tutorial

 

 

 

Hi everyone!
So yesterday I watched some “Jennifer Lawrence funny moments” video’s on YouTube. Can we just appreciate the fact that there is a series of 22 video’s and a 23^rd on its way.
I love Jennifer Lawrence, she’s my favourite actress, not only because of the great work she does, her personality is amazing. Jennifer is down to earth and really funny, even though she’s a celebrity, she doesn’t come across like one.
I couldn’t help but notice how beautiful her hairstyle was during the 38^th Annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, so I decided to recreate it and make a tutorial.

It’s kind of an inspired tutorial, because my hair isn’t similar to Jennifer’s and not the exact hairstyle, because I’m not an expert.
I’m very boring when it comes to hair, and just wear it down every single day. So if I’m a beginner and I can do this, well... that must mean it’s very easy.

As for preparations, I washed my hair, blow dried it and teased the roots a little for some volume and texture, but that’s pretty much all. For this hairstyle it doesn’t matter if your hair is straight or curly, but you do need medium to long hair.

All you need to create this hairstyle is two small (clear) elastic hair bands and a few bobby pins, preferably small and in your own hair colour.

So enough talk, let’s start with the tutorial!



The first thing you need to do is create a centre part. It doesn’t have to be exactly in the middle, just let it fall naturally in a middle part.

 

Next you take the two (clear) elastic bands and create two ponytails behind your ear, located quite low. It is important to only wrap the elastic band around your hair once, if you want to take them out later. You can also keep them in for this hairstyle, in that case, wrap them around as much as you need. I prefer taking them out, because there is no chance of them showing.

 

The third step is to pull out your bangs. If you don’t have bangs, take out a few strands of hair where the bangs should be.
Then start braiding the ponytails. Just a normal, regular braid, nothing special. Secure the braids with a bobby pin.

 

After braiding the ponytails, gently roll down the elastic bands, it you want to take them out. If you want to keep them in to make this hairstyle extra easy, skip this step. If you want to take them out, but can’t roll them down, you can also cut them, but be very careful you don’t cut your hair or your ear!

 

Gently pull the braid, making it look more voluminous and thicker. I like to set the braids with hairspray after doing this, but that’s all up to you.

 

Now on to the hardest part of this hairstyle, pinning the braid on your head. Take your time with this step, because it’s important you place them right.
Gently flip your braid at the starting point so the end points up to the sky. If you want you can secure the base with a few bobby pins. Then bring the braid over to the other side of your head, creating a “crown” or hair band. Your braid needs to pass the centre part for this hairstyle to work, hence the medium to long hair.

When you’ve placed the braid in the position you want it to be, pin it with a bobby pin. I found it looks best to pin them parallel to the braid and not across, this way you can hide the bobby pin easily.
Repeat this with the braid on the other side of your hair, placing the braid over the previous one to hide the bobby pin and hide the end of the braid underneath the braid you placed before and secure with a bobby pin.

Secure any extra parts you need to secure with a bobby pin spray with hairspray and you’re finished!

If you want you can curl your bangs if you’ve got long bangs, because I think that would look cute. If your bangs are short, I wouldn’t curl them and just leave them as they’re are.

You can make this hairstyle look really neat, although you need more skill for that, or quite messy. I prefer this hairstyle looking rather messy, but that’s just personal preference.

Review: Tanya Burr's Lip Glosses

First of all I want to congratulate Tanya Burr on creating and releasing her own make up line. I'm so proud of her and I think she did an amazing job. If you don't know Tanya (who doesn't?) here's the link to her YouTube channel and her blog.

I've ordered two nail polishes and two lip glosses. The nail polishes haven't arrived yet, but I'll review those when I can. Until then, here's my review of Tanya's lip glosses:

Tanya has worked together with eye CANDY for over a year (I believe) and the finished result is a gorgeous collection existing of 12 lip glosses and 10 nail polishes in the most beautiful colours and the most amazing names. Tanya chose the names of the products herself and I think she's done a great job choosing names that mean something to her personally, ranging from her favourite Disney princess to her love for penguins or some of her most precious memories.

The two lip glosses I ordered are 'First Date' and 'Vampire Kiss' and I was so exited once I got them in my mailbox, I wanted to put them on straight away. But as the good blogger I am, I waited till after I photographed the packaging.
I think the packaging of the lip glosses look really nice. Tanya did a good job personalizing them, so they can be easily recognized as hers. On the packaging is a picture of Tanya, looking beautiful as always, with her signature underneath.

The packaging of the lip glosses themselves is quite simple, which I like, but personalized with Tanya's signature and the little heart on top of the lid, which I think is really cute.

Let's get on with the product. When I opened the lip gloss a sweet, fruity smell greeted me. The scent is quite strong when applying the product, but leaves quickly. If your not a fan of scented make up products, that's a thing you should keep in mind. I'm not a huge fan of the scent, but I don't dislike it either. It's a bit mehh.. Although it smells fruity, it's a bit more like fruit flavoured sweets and not the fruit itself, if you get what I mean, a bit artificial.

The next thing I noticed is the applicator. I haven't seen one like this before. It reminded me a bit of those plastic coffee spoons with two holes in them, but than a bit thicker and without the holes. Application went really nice. The amount of product you get on the applicator is the perfect amount to do one lip. I had to get used to the applicator for a few seconds, but quickly found out how to work with it and my love for it grew fast. With this applicator you can work really accurate and neat, which is  handy, especially for the darker lipglosses. I also found it really easy to apply the lipgloss to the inner part of the lip, while with others I usually smudge some lipgloss on my teeth. This might have to with the fact that I'm clumsy.

The first lip gloss I tried was 'First Date'. I was a bit scared to try it, because the colour of the lip gloss is quite light, which usually doesn't really suit me. 'First Date' is a beautiful blue toned pink colour with a slight hint of lilac. Although on the pictures of the product in the bottle it looks more peachy, I don't know why. The colour of the swatches is more accurate.

First Date

The lip gloss itself is nicely pigmented. It gives enough colour to be a little bit more than a sheer coat, but you can build it up to be fully opaque. I prefer to let a bit of my own lip colour shine through the lip gloss, because otherwise the lip gloss will be to light for my skintone.

Vampire Kiss

Next the lip gloss I was most exited for 'Vampire Kiss'. I was a little bit disappointed at first, because the lip gloss turned out to be lighter than it is in the bottle when I applied the first layer, but beautiful nonetheless. But my disappointment faded quickly, because to get the dark colour, you only need a little bit of a thicker layer.

On the photos of the swatches the colour looks a bit orangy, but in real life it's more of a true (dark) red.

I've been wearing 'First Date' today and it stayed on quite well, with a few touch ups. Also the lip gloss isn't very sticky, depending on how thick the layer of lip gloss you're wearing is. Another bonus is the taste, which is really nice. I can't really tell what it tastes like, because I simply have no idea, but I can tell it is a lot better than make up which tastes like... well, make up.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and I think Tanya Burr can be very proud of her collection. I hope that some day her make up line will be sold in Dutch shops, so I can try out more products, because there are a few other lip glosses and nail polishes I would like to add to my collection. Until then I will have to buy them on Feelunique.

January Favourites

With January being over and February just beginning, we are being bombarded with blogpost and youtube videos showing the products loved in January. And like so many bloggers and youtubers, I'm going to do the same thing. So here are the products I used a lot and loved through January:

Let's start with the beauty favourites. First up the product I use multiple times each day, the Maybelline Baby Lips in Intense Care. This is the best lip balm I've ever owned. It goes on really smooth and makes my lips soft like no other lip balm can do.

I prefer lip balms in stick form to lip balms in pot form, because you have to put your finger in the pot and get it all dirty and sticky and bleggh and then you need to wipe it off on something or someone. I much rather prevent that.

The Maybelline Baby Lips gives some shine to the lips, which I quite like. The Maybelline Baby Lips also comes in coloured lip balms. I own Cherry Me and Pink Punch. I love Cherry Me which is a red, but I don't really like Pink Punch, because the pink colour is too light for my lips and makes it look odd.

The formulas of the coloured lip balms are really nice as well. They are moisturizing and make your lips very soft, but they aren't as moisturizing as the colourless ones.

The Maybelline Baby Lips in Intense Care is the only lip balm I've ever used all up. And that says something because I never seem to be able to empty products and change them before I can finish them.

Yes, there's a little Christmasbear hiding behind the mirror. No I didn't forget to put it away, it's sitting there all year. Don't judge, it's just too cute.

Next is a nail polish which is Essie's After School Boy Blazer. This is the perfect winter nail polish for me. I always wear dark colours (even in summer). I just love dark nails. After School Boy Blazer is a dark, dark blue, which in a certain light looks black.

But not only the colour is amazing, the formula of this nail polish is incredible. To get a nice colour on your nails you only need one coat, only one! But that's not the only thing. This nail polish dries so fast. I think mine has dried within 10 minutes without using a quick drying topcoat. That is just amazing and makes this nail polish the perfect nail polish for a girl like me who hates having to wait for the nail polish to dry. I always ruin my nail polish when I have to wait for it to dry, because I just can't sit still, it's too boring.

Third is a product I rediscovered in January. I've had the Maybelline Colour Tattoos for a while, but just didn't use them a lot, until now that is. I have been using the colour Permanent Taupe the most, which is a very pretty every day taupe brown shade. The texture of these Colour Tattoos is really nice. You can apply the product with your finger, but I prefer using a brush (The filthy finger story again). They blend very nice and last a long time. You can use the product on its own or as a base and put eye shadow on top.

Next up is a product I have been using for a few months now, but since this is the first time I do a monthly favourites I thought I would include this product as well. It's the Sleek Blush by 3 in Lace. I have been using the shade in the middle a lot. It's named Guipure and it's a stunning rose gold/coral colour with orange/gold shimmer. It's a colour hard to describe, but stunning nonetheless.

Next up is a product more for Dutch people, because it's from HEMA. I believe there are a few HEMAs in other countries as well, but it's mainly Dutch. Anyway, this product is a lipgloss and it is really nice. To be honest, I didn't expect it to be a good product since HEMA is very cheap, I think this lipgloss only cost me 3euros, bargain. I just bought it because I needed a lipgloss in a pinky colour for my prom and HEMA was just the shop that was nearby. But this lipgloss is really nice. It is the moisturizing lipgloss in number 02 and it is a pretty blue toned pink with a bit of silver glitter. The lipgloss isn't very pigmented itself and is described as semi-transparent, but on top of lipstick it looks amazing, which is how I usually wear my lipglosses anyway. I love wearing it on top of Topshop's Macaroon lipstick or Rimmel's Kate Moss lipstick in 101. Because the lipgloss isn't very pigmented it gives the lipstick a nice pink sheen. Pretty, pretty.

Plus, what I find most important about lipglosses, it isn't sticky at all. An overall great product.

The last beauty product in this monthly favourites is a hair product from John Frieda. This is the Luxurious Volume Blow Dry Lotion Root Boosting.

I spray this in my hair after washing it and before blow drying, concentrating it at my roots, because that's where I want the volume to be. Again I really like this product because you can spray it directly into your hair and don't have to pump mousse into your hand and get filthy, sticky hands, I just hate it (as if you didn't know by now).

It gives me a little bit of volume, good enough for everyday, but if I want to give my hair a little bit extra I'll need to tease the roots and hairspray it.

Now on to the fashion favourites. Which is my new pair of boots from H&M. I've written a full blogpost, including pictures, about them which you can check out here.

And last but not least, the random favourites.

I've been ill quite a lot this month, and the best thing you can do whilst being ill is to watch a lot of TV series and Disney films. Which is exactly what I did.

I had already seen the entire first season of Orphan Black a few months ago and loved it so much I decided to watch the entire series again this month and I still love it a lot. It's about human clones who are being hunted down by someone and it's very thrilling, exciting, but also funny and interesting. If you like those kind of things I strongly advice you to watch it if you haven't watched it yet.

Frozen Movie Poster

Another thing I watched this month whilst being ill is the movie Frozen from Disney and I loved it so much I saw it again that same week and I wouldn't mind watching it for a third time. I think it might have beaten Bambi and has become my new favourite Disney movie. I loved all the songs and the story was really good, a little bit different from the more typical Disney movies with one bad guy and one good guy. Also advice you to watch that.

Well then it might be no surprise to you that my favourite song this month is Let it Go by Idina Menzel. This is a song sang in Frozen and I might have been singing it a lot this month. I prefer this version to the one sang by Demi Lovato, because it's more Elza. You can listen to the song down here:
